Join us at this special event, where wine-growing traditions intertwine with ethnographic heritage.
The pruning of the vine – one of the winegrowers’ most important operations in the winter–spring period – is crucial for controlling the vine’s growth and vitality in the years to come.
Bled Castle has a great vine with the most remarkable story. The graft of this modra kavčina or žametna črnina vine originating from Lent in Maribor was a descendant of the World’s Oldest Vine, recorded as such in the Guinness Book of Records. The grafted vine was planted in Bled in 2011 to commemorate 1,000 years of Bled Castle.
The vine is considered a rare ethnographic attraction, as it grows at an altitude of 599 metres above sea level. Despite modest growing conditions, it continues to thrive, recalling a time when vineyards were part of the Bled area landscape.
The pruning of the castle vine will take place on Saturday, 28 February, at 11.00 a.m. The cultural program will feature a performance by the music group Tantadruj.
