A WALK THROUGH HISTORY BENEATH THE CASTLE WALLS
Castle Park
The Castle Park beneath Bled Castle is a contemporary space that blends rich history with the natural landscape. The green park terraces offer a magical setting for wedding ceremonies, various events, or simply a peaceful retreat amid the rustling of trees.
ARCHITECTURAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE
Terraced Park with a View of Lake Bled
The park is designed in terraces that follow the natural relief, allowing visitors to stroll among stone walls, gravel paths, and viewpoints overlooking Lake Bled. A distinctive feature of the park is the viewing pier, located next to the reconstructed remains of a former pavilion or chapel. The walking paths are equipped with wooden benches and discreet lighting that highlights the spatial design features. Landscape architect Matej Kučina, the author of the park’s renovation, received the international professional recognition BigSEE Architecture Award 2020 – Grand Prix for his work.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MOSAIC OF THE CASTLE HILL
Traces of the Past
Archaeological excavations carried out during the park’s renovation uncovered numerous remains from different historical periods. Finds such as arrowheads, stone axes, prehistoric tools, Roman coins, ornaments, and remnants of medieval structures testify to the millennia-long settlement of the castle hill. This rich historical layer adds further value to the park and connects the contemporary landscape design with the ancient heritage of the site.
A PLACE WHERE NATURE, CULTURE, AND COMMUNITY MEET
A Space of Experiences, Art, and Relaxation
The Castle Park is not only a promenade with scenic views but also a magical space dedicated to various events and gatherings. Among the green terraces, wedding ceremonies, cultural and educational events such as Medieval Days, readings beneath the trees, puppet shows, and other programs for visitors of all generations take place.
A special corner of the park is the little free library – a small house for book exchange, where visitors can borrow a book, swap one, or simply enjoy reading on one of the wooden benches. In this way, the park intertwines art, nature, and community.
The park is also the starting point for Slavko Oblak’s Sculpture Trail, marked by the artist’s work Castle Flower, placed right here in this space.
The Castle Park aesthetically complements the image of Bled Castle while offering a place for relaxation, learning, and experiencing history – all in the embrace of stunning nature.
