Bled castle, castle park,

15th Medieval days

Medieval Days at Bled Castle traditionally take place on the first weekend in June, 3-4. This year, the event is expanding already into May, when on the first Sunday, May 7, all brave, strong and fearless men are invited to try themselves in the medieval challenges with which knights once conquered territories and women's hearts. Next Sunday, May 14th, the event will be a bit more dedicated to the ladies, to exchange a thousand and one secrets that used to enchant knights and even drive them into war. However, to prevent any frictions, we invite children on the last Sunday of May, 28 May. We are positive they will drive away too serious chivalry-ladies complications with their laughter so that they can all have a festive finale on 3-4 June.

Medieval camp in the castle park: May 28th-June 4th

Sir Lambergar's army, camped in the clearing outside the castle, is getting ready, even when the people in the castle are busy having fun! During the day, knights perfect their skill of swordmanship, weapon throwing and archery. When you visit the camp, you can pick up a card on which you record your knightly skills results.

The camp will be open for visit every day, from May 28 to June 4, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m*.

*except on June 3rd and 4th, when a special camp timetable applies - check the programme below.

On June 3 and 4 it really gets going

Everything is finally ready for a big celebration on the castle rock in the first nights of June. The castle opens its door to charming ladies and brave knights, organizes dances and sword fight demonstrations, and listens to the jokes and laughter of jesters. The market below the castle is alive with sounds, smells and activity. There, craftsmen demonstrate their skill, and traditional food and drinks are served to keep the visitors fed and happy. If music makes your feet want to dance, don't hold back - learn a few Medieval dance moves!

Access and parking

During the event special traffic arrangements will apply - access for exit and entry of passengers to the castle parking area (Blejski grad 1) will be possible for buses, vans, families with younger children, elderly people and people with reduced mobility but no parking. Free parking will be available at the Blejski grad 2 parking area, from where a free shuttle will be driving to the castle and back.

On foot, by bike or in a horse-drawn carriage

Along the Arnold Rikli path
The main path to the castle starts just above the Grajsko kopališče public lido. A 10-minute moderate walk through the forest overgrowing the castle hill and further up the laid-out path delicately lit during the night will reward you with spectacular views of the lake, Bled and its surroundings.

From the Slovenski trg square
The Slovenski trg square in front of St. Martin's Church can be reached from the lakeside promenade and past the Spa Park, or from the main bus station through the Grad hamlet. The path runs up the hill at the foot of the castle rock, joining the Rikli path after a few minutes' walk.

Across the Višce hill
If you are coming from Rečica, the path to Bled Castle will take you over the Višce hill. The 20-minute walk begins at the sign Rečica - Višce. When the main road towards the Mala Zaka Rowing Centre, the railway station and Velika Zaka turns sharply right, the path for the castle forks off left (Za gradom). The path is well marked. Just before ascending to the castle, there is a viewing platform that offers fantastic views of the lake and the area.

By bike
The Bled area is ideal for cycling as it rewards recreation with breath-taking views of the picturesque landscape. You can combine your cycling tour with a visit to the castle. In the centre of the town, follow the main road towards Pokljuka until you come to the sports park. There turn left and continue up a rather steep road to the car park near the castle entrance, where you can leave your bike at the bike rack next to the castle wall and explore the castle on foot.

In a horse-drawn carriage
A ride in a horse-drawn carriage is a memorable experience, especially if it takes you to Bled Castle. The ride can be arranged at the meeting point of the Bled Fiaker Coachmen at the lakeside promenade in the centre of the town.
