18th Medieval Days delighted visitors of all generations

Today marked the conclusion of the 18th Medieval Days at Bled Castle, one of the most recognizable traditional events organized by the Bled Culture Institute. The event offers both local and international visitors a unique opportunity to experience medieval life, culture, and customs.

The week-long programme for all generations began last Sunday with a Family Experience Day in the Castle Park, continued with a medieval camp, and reached its peak this weekend with performances by Slovenian and international medieval groups at the castle.

Spectacular performances by Slovenian and international groups

Over the course of two days, more than 240 costumed performers from Slovenia and abroad transformed Bled Castle into an authentic medieval setting. Visitors enjoyed knightly tournaments, dance and music performances, theatrical presentations, and many other activities that brought the Middle Ages to life.

Alongside the castle’s resident medieval group, KD IS Knight Gašper Lambergar, the event featured performances by: Knights of St. George of Visegrád (Hungary), Ursus Knights (Slovakia), the dance group Lonca (Slovenia), Udruga grofija Konjski Konjščina (Croatia), the flag throwers of Grup Artistic Furlan Medioevo A Valvasone APS (Italy), Vitezovi Vranski and the dance group Kontea (Croatia), Moreška from Korčula (Croatia), the musical ensemble Hollóének Hungarica (Hungary), Teater Cizamo (Slovenia) with a theatrical performance, Ordo Santi Viti with a children's sword-fighting school, and Scarlet B with a dance workshop.

This year, visitors to Bled Castle were able to enjoy, for the first time, the entertaining performance of the Slovak knights from the Ursus group. Another highlight was the appearance of the 50-member Moreška group from Korčula. The group presented the traditional Korčulan sword dance, whose origins date back several centuries and which remains an important part of the cultural heritage of the island of Korčula. In choreographed combat sequences, dancers use two swords, accompanied by a brass band performance.

Flag bearers performing beneath Bled Castle created a memorable atmosphere for visitors at the event. An Interactive Experience for All Ages
The programme was further enriched by a medieval market, demonstrations of traditional crafts, creative workshops for children, and a medieval camp in the Castle Park, where visitors could try their hand at various medieval skills. As in previous years, the event’s interactive nature attracted particular attention. Visitors of all ages were encouraged to actively participate in numerous activities at the medieval camp in the Castle Park and on the lower castle terrace, from testing their knightly abilities to learning about courtly etiquette. And, just for fun, some even found themselves in the executioner’s hands.

The Medieval Days at Bled Castle offer visitors not only an authentic glimpse into life in centuries past but also provide a stage for groups from Slovenia and abroad who are passionately dedicated to preserving and recreating the rich heritage of the medieval era.
